But without getting too distracted, let's dive into it:

How to create whiteboard animation in VideoScribe for your browser

As we like to say, whiteboard animation is a style of video designed to look like the content is being hand-drawn on a school whiteboard or white background. It’s a particularly popular way to communicate complex information because the simple graphics are easy to understand.

Now, let’s chat about how you can create whiteboard animations in VideoScribe for your browser. The easiest, quickest, and most effective way to create your own whiteboard animation video is by starting with one of our free, pre-made templates - like our ‘Whiteboard Explainer - Green Collage’ video template.

We have stacks of templates available to you! Simply choose whatever whiteboard animation template suits your message, and customize the text, the imagery, the colors, the backing music or voice-over, and the animation styles. It’s really that easy!

How to create chalkboard style animation in VideoScribe for your browser

The chalkboard style of animation is the vintage cousin of whiteboard animation - it’s still a style of video designed to look like the content is being hand-drawn - but rather than it being on a whiteboard or white background, it’s done on a dark background with white text and illustrations. Plus with the VideoScribe hand and pencil library, you can use a range of different hands and ethnicities to create this animation style with ‘chalk’.

Taking the same ‘Whiteboard Explain - Green Collage’ template, we edited the colors of each element to create our chalkboard-style animated video. Let’s show you our finished product, and talk you through how we did this with some tips and tricks along the way.

Because this template is a single scene, it is slightly easier to customize. First things first, change the background color. We went with a dark grey (hex code #484848).

Then, you can save time by selecting like for like elements at once and editing the color in one go. Hold command or ctrl on your keyboard and click on each element in your timeline, and change it to white (hex code #ffffff). We also wanted to update the font style to look a little less polished and more “rustic”, like it was being drawn out with chalk.

We chose ‘Nanum Pen Script’ from the font library to achieve the new look. We switched out some of the images, and customized the colors on a couple of others to give them a white outline instead, added a backing track to get our finished! It took a maximum of 10 minutes to transform the template from a whiteboard to a chalkboard-style animation. It’s so easy to customize our templates. What did you think?

How to create mixed media animation in VideoScribe for your browser

Mixed media videos combine a range of different styles including photography with animated graphics, text, and illustration. It’s an effective way to show off people or products while letting the benefits of animation do the heavy lifting.

You can use mixed media animations in subtle - and not-so-subtle - ways. In the VideoScribe for your browser template library, we have a range of mixed media templates for you to choose from. For example, our ‘Teacher Class Introduction’ template uses a photograph of the teacher, placed inside of a polaroid frame, to make it look as though you’re flicking through her holiday photos! Check it out:

Speaking of holiday photos, our Travel Tips template is the perfect example of how mixed media videos can be used to open a talking head video. This template opens with inspiring travel photos of Australia, which could be used to open your YouTube video, introducing the topic, and then cutting to a talking head video of yourself. Change up the imagery and text to cover your ‘Top 5 tips for dining in London’, or your ‘Top 5 tips for glowing skin’! Your options are endless - just switch in your passions to use this on YouTube.

How to create animated GIFs in VideoScribe for your browser

An animated GIF is a series of images, or frames, placed in a sequence to create what looks like an animated video. Unlike video, animated GIFs don't use audio, no voice-overs - they embrace color, movement, and animation. Luckily for you, when it comes to creating animated GIFs in VideoScribe, it is as easy as making a video!

All you need to do is choose the type of animation you want to create. Is it whiteboard animation, chalkboard animation, mixed media animation, or something completely different? Go ahead and start creating your project as normal (from scratch or by using a template), and then when you’re ready, click ‘Share’, ‘Download as video or GIF’, and then choose ‘GIF’. VideoScribe will automatically transform the first 15 seconds of your project into a GIF. No ifs. No buts. Just a click, and you’ve got yourself a GIF.

In the VideoScribe for your browser template library, there is a range of free editable GIF templates ready for you. Plus, keep an eye out for our templates for the GIF badge. If you see ‘GIF Friendly’ on the template preview, you can easily render those templates to GIFs as well!
