# What is an Explainer Video?
Posted by [Amiee PreFontaine](https://blog.videoscribe.co/author/amiee-prefontaine) on September 24, 2024
Here at VideoScribe, we love explainer videos and we love helping you make them. But, what exactly is an explainer video? And how can you use them to benefit you and your business?
An explainer video is a powerful tool designed to convey complex information in a simple, engaging format. In this blog, we will break down what makes an explainer video and why it has become a go-to solution for businesses and educators.
## **What is an Explainer Video?**
An explainer video is a short, visually engaging video that explains a product, service, or concept in a clear and concise manner. These videos, typically no longer than a few minutes, use a combination of animation, narration, and compelling visuals to quickly capture the viewer’s attention while delivering important information.
## **Key Features of Explainer Videos:**
- **Short and Concise**: They are typically under 2 minutes, designed to get to the point quickly.
- **Engaging Storytelling**: Explainer videos use simple narratives to explain complicated concepts.
- **Visual and Auditory Elements**: They often include animation, voiceover, and background music to keep viewers interested.
## **Why are Explainer Videos Important?**
Explainer videos are becoming a staple for businesses because they simplify complex topics and can significantly enhance the understanding of your product or service. Here’s why they are effective:
### **1. Boost Engagement**
Explainer videos use visual storytelling to make even the driest topics more engaging. The use of animation and voiceover helps break down complicated concepts, making it easier for viewers to digest and follow along.
### **2. Increase Conversion Rates**
According to [research from Eyeview Media](https://saleslion.io/sales-statistics/using-video-on-landing-pages-can-increase-conversion-by-80/), including an explainer video on a landing page can increase conversion rates by up to 80%. By explaining your product or service in a compelling way, you help customers make more informed purchasing decisions.
### **3. Improves SEO**
Google favors websites with engaging video content, meaning explainer videos can improve your search engine ranking. Videos are more likely to be viewed and shared on social media, leading to increased website traffic and higher SEO performance.
### **4. Clarifies Your Product or Service**
When potential customers are unsure of how your product works or what your service offers, they are less likely to make a purchase. An explainer video provides clarity, outlining features, benefits, and use cases quickly.
## **Types of Explainer Videos**
Not all explainer videos are created equal. Depending on your business needs and audience, you can choose from various types:
### **Animated Explainer Videos:**
These are the most common types of explainer videos. Animation allows you to create custom visuals and characters that perfectly match your brand’s tone and message. It’s ideal for explaining abstract concepts or services that don’t have a tangible form. ## **Whiteboard Explainer Videos:**
Whiteboard videos feature illustrations being drawn on a whiteboard, often in a time-lapse style. These videos are perfect for breaking down complex information in a step-by-step format. We have plenty of Whiteboard Explainer templates to help you get started. ## **Conclusion**
An explainer video is an invaluable tool for modern businesses and institutions looking to communicate complex information quickly and effectively. Whether you’re looking to boost engagement, improve conversion rates, or clarify your offerings, an explainer video can provide the perfect solution.
By crafting a well-executed video with a clear message and engaging visuals, you can transform your company’s business and marketing strategy and enhance your connection with your audience.
