The winning scribe of the ViB2014 Competition had to be technically impressive, clear in its message and have a big impact. 'Fly the plane' by Tom LaBaff is all those things and more. Find out the story behind the scribe that beat over 700 entries to the top spot.
Tom LaBaff is a professional illustrator based in Florida, USA. He was commissioned by Applied Industrial Technologies to produce a scribe about how 'keeping an eye on the big picture can help simplify a hectic lifestyle'.
'Fly the plane' was shown to over 400 people at Applied's 90th anniversary shareholder meeting. According to LaBaff, the scribe was met with 'lots of laughter during the performance and a big applause at the end'.
The Sparkol judges were wowed by the quality of the scribe's illustration and the clarity of the message –
We were impressed with the way the scribe combined innovative use of VideoScribe animation techniques and great storytelling. The audio effects are executed well and it has a good overall flow. The result is a particularly compelling and professional-looking video.
'Fly the plane' scored the highest out of over 700 entries, winning Tom a shiny new iPad Air, Chromecast and – best of all – an exclusive Sparkol tshirt. He seemed pretty pleased!
This is AWESOME! I'm honored to be chosen. I love VideoScribe and tell everyone about it. You guys rock.
Congratulations Tom – we look forward to seeing your future scribes.
A massive thank you to everyone who entered ViB2014.
